Today, the importance of a college education cannot be disputed. Any professional field requires you to have some sort of post-secondary education, whether it’s in the form of a degree, a diploma, a certificate or some other sort of accreditation. In fact, a survey was conducted around the world about the significance of a college degree in the corporate field. You may be surprised to know that a college degree affects your salary by a 60 per cent increment. Even with these statistics, situations exist that may hinder you from obtaining a college education. Luckily, there are solutions to many of these problems. These solutions are facilitated by the government and educational bodies, which ensure that those who a want to receive an essential college education, have the opportunity to.

When it comes to college, many young people feel as though they do not need it in order to make a good living. As young people grow and become adults, it is soon realized that not having a college education was not such a great idea.

Those with a college degree are far more likely to be hired for any position out there, before someone without a degree. In fact, someone without a degree, but ten years of hands on experience is often times passed up for someone with no hands on experience but a college degree under their belt.

Because of that fact alone it is vital to make sure that you obtain a college degree. Whether you are seventeen years old or forty years old, now is the time in your life to begin thinking about improving your education.

You are never too young or too old to think about college as you have a lot of life to live and you want to be able to make the most of it. But besides the money aspect of the whole college issue, there are other reasons to earn a college education.

Those with a college degree under their belt, no matter what it was that they specialized in, are treated with more respect in the  community. While that is a sad thing to say and some people are not likely to believe it, it is true.

People will take what you have to say more seriously if you are college educated. Even though there are incredibly smart and talented people all over the place without a college education, they are not given the opportunities that someone with a degree gets. Fair or unfair, this is the way the world works.

You will also gain a lot of life experience by attending college. Besides all the stuff that you will learn from books, you will also learn a lot of street smart stuff during your years in college.

Interaction with authority and your peers is a big part of it. It is a nice way to taste the “real world” without yet having to pay the mortgage that goes along with it. Of course, if you are an adult returning to school you will still have that mortgage but there is still a lot to be learned in terms of life experiences.

College is without a doubt a time in your life that you will not regret or soon forget. Even though it may be a little stressful and maybe even a little scary, your future, your happiness, and your overall well being depend upon you making the right decisions about your education.

It is time to act now. The sooner you get up and get started the sooner it will all be done and over with. Once you are finished you can put all of that knowledge to good use and start earning the income that your time is truly worth.

Online college education refers to courses where at least 80 percent of content is distributed online. There is often no face-to-face contact involved with these degree programs. The students can work in their study time on a schedule that best fits their own schedule.

Recent advances in online education has made college degrees obtained through online study as readily accepted as college degrees earned by on campus study. On average, online courses are far more writing intensive than traditional classes have ever been. Online education also involves access to databases in the form of text files or multimedia web pages, as well as the exchange of information (e.g., assignments, course materials) via file transfers. Online education is rapidly increasing, and online doctoral programs have even developed at leading research universities.

At most online colleges course selection and enrollment are limited each semester. Course materials are required as is participation in lectures, reports and exams. Course credit and graduation diplomas awarded are considered equivalent in standard and content to a face-to-face program. Classes may include any or all types of media and access technology, and are generally classified based on the predominant mode of delivery.

Journalism courses are a popular field of online study. Courses cover everything from writing and editing to reporting and ethics. Some leading online colleges offer newsletters, blogs and other great resources. Courses must be completed within the semester time frame, although students may proceed through a course at their own rate.

By limiting courses to one semester for completion, students have an automatic deadline for course completion. This practice addresses one of the major problems of online learning which is procrastination and the forfeiting of courses because no deadlines are set by the institution. Courses are structured so that attendees can gain credits for modules that give immediate benefit in the classroom.

Colleges offer courses over the Internet and thus provide courses with tuition fees for the international market. Some colleges and universities provide campus locations, online degree programs and flexible scheduling for working students. Their campus and online degree programs often cover fields such as business and management, communications, criminal justice and security, education, general studies, nursing and health care, human services, psychology, and technology.

There is another type of online college study program that teaches students real-world skills that they can apply on the job. Online graduates of these skill set learning programs have been hired by many companies ranging from small businesses to top Fortune 500 corporations. These online degree programs are designed for maximum flexibility. Study can be at the times and places that work best for the student.

Online college education is here to stay. With the cost of on campus study skyrocketing all across the nation for many students online study becomes an attractive alternative way to obtain a college degree.

An education is an important thing for anybody. Without a college education, even a high school education, there are very few jobs out there that will offer you the financial stability needed for your future. An education for single moms is especially important because not only do you have to fend for yourself financially, but you also have one or maybe more children to take care of. Juggling a job and trying to take care of the children at the same time can be a daunting process, and it is imperative that you find a way to get an education.

It is probably true that if you are a single mom, getting an education is something that you really want, but probably do not have time nor the money. There are special educational grants, scholarships, and other financial resources that are out there, but they will not come to you, you have to go out there and find them. Go online or talk to a financial aid officer at your local school and you’ll be able to find a program that will fit into your budget, if not your time. There are also some community colleges who offer free shopping opportunities for prospective students. If you find that your local college does not offer the services, there are several government programs that will pay a partial or full amount of child care while you are attending school.

An education for single moms is very important. And only when you get the career that you want, will you have a more secure future in which to raise your child. You’ll also be a role model for your child as they become older. A child of the college graduated mother is more likely to go to college themselves than if their mother had a high school graduate education or GED.

Time management is your biggest issue after your finances are covered. How can any woman manage a child, a household, an education, and a job? It can be done with the right management. Join a network of other single moms that have alternative schedules. You can take care of their children while they are at school and you can have your child taken care of while you are in school. If there is not a single mom network within your college, create one. Put up flyers and have a meeting. You’ll find that there are a lot of people in your situation that have the same difficulties with finances and time management that you do.

Use family members if they are available. Take advantage of the opportunity without taking advantage of the people around you. Show them that you’re responsible and that you want to have an education. They should understand that you know an education for single moms is a must if you are to have a financially secure family. Sit down and talk with your family and say to them that you want to graduate from college to make your life better and your child’s life better. Tell them that once you have a job and graduate from college that you will reciprocate all the assistance, love and the understanding, and maybe the finances that they give you.

It is no secret at the moment that the cost of college education is huge. If you go to a top college you will be paying a lot of money for getting a higher education. Even the smaller colleges charge a lot for their services, so going to college is no small commitment.

However you do not have to pay all your college fees by yourself in one go. There are many financial aids around including college education loans to help students to cope with the extra financial burden. Each company’s loans are different, but most allow you to pay off your debt over a long time frame which takes the pressure off paying it back.

There are also bursaries and grants available in some cases that do not need to be paid back. These are specifically for students who would have trouble paying for their college education fees. A bit of research may uncover financial aid that you never would have expected.

The great thing about college education loans is that they allow you to invest in your future. A good college education is one of the best investments you could ever make as the return on investment is huge. Many people are put off by the high cost of getting a college education without realising it will actually cost them much more in the long run not to go.

The most important thing is to do research into what college education loans, bursaries and grants are available for you. The cost of going to college may be a lot more manageable than you thought.

A student has to fork out huge money for college education. This is because a student pays for high tuition fee, hostel expenses, books, sports and lot many facilities. Since a student income sources are none or very few, he or she is left with no alternative than to opt for College Education Loans that are specifically carved out to pursue college studies.

When thinking of college education loan, a student should first explore Federal Loans that are made especially to students. The biggest advantage of Federal loans is that these are low rate loans and come with variety of repayment duration as per the student  repaying capacity. A student can take Federal Stafford Loans or Federal Perkins Loans at low rate of interest. As long as the student continues college education, he or she is not required to repay Federal loans and it is only after college studies and getting a regular job that the student starts paying back the loan. And if you want to repay the loan, you can do so after six months of getting the loan in hands.

Then there are plus loans which are given to parents. These are also federal backed loans but the responsibility of repaying the loan is with the parents, not on the student. This loan is preferred where a student has bad credit and finds loan availing difficult as he or she cannot provide adequate security of the loan.

If Federal loans do not serve the purpose, then a student can take college education loans from private lenders in secured or unsecured options. The loan amount and interest rate will depend on the borrower’s persona circumstances like credit history and repaying capacity.

In case the student has bad credit history, it is advisable that college education loans should be taken along with a co-signer who has good credit history. Such a co-signer enables in taking the loan at lower rate of interest. So one can say that a college student has many options in taking loans for studies but these should be explore as per individual circumstances.

Free education is a luxury all too often taken for granted by children as well as young adults barely coming to the end of their senior year of high school. Yes, high school graduation is a time when the realization of the fact that they’re about to be catapulted into the “real world” a place that creates fear and trepidation of the unknown, a time when the value of all those years of free education suddenly comes crashing down like an icy cascade of water that jolts a person from a deep sleep. It is when the knowledge of how they utilized or didn’t utilize their free gift will be put to practical use. It is also a time that finally puts a real dollar amount on education; yes after high school many have the rude awakening that from that point on education is anything but free.

Most often when a person, especially one right out of high school is sitting in front of a financial aid officer at any college the reaction is the same. Facial expressions of shock and disbelief and sometimes even anger are the normal fare for the poor officers who often have to take a “Don’t kill the messenger” approach to the shocking news that there is no such thing as a free education.

Financial Aid is just that, aid or help in the forms of grants, scholarships, loans, and other programs designed to help select persons achieve their

educational goals. However, many times most of the help or aid comes in the form of loans that must be paid back after the student graduates, and with some loans payback actually has to start while the student is still in school. You also have to remember something called the shortfall or the part of the expenses that are not covered by the different forms of financial aid thus leaving a monthly payment that must be paid directly to the school itself. This too is something that is forgotten about or not even thought of in the first place by many.

The bad news is that tuition fees are just the tip of the iceberg, as it constitutes only a fraction of the overall cost of college. The expense shoots up several notches if you add room and board to the total cost of attending college.

There are several other factors that can make college a financial burden for many. One of the biggest factors is juggling several responsibilities with education that prolongs graduation time for many students and adds to the overall cost.

But the good news is that help is available in the form of financial aid for college, especially if you’re among those whose parents did not have the means to save money for college and have to depend on loans to finance higher education.

In fact, a lot of people delay going to college until they have built some savings to avoid taking loans. While it’s admirable on their part to save up for college, there’s a high probability that such individuals would never be able to go back to school as they get embroiled in the nitty-gritty of life.

College Financial Aid

If you want to graduate from college debt free or at least reduce it to the maximum extent possible, then it’s important to explore all avenues of college financial aid. According to the College Board survey, full-time students of private four-year institutions receive an average of ,000 of aid per year in the form of grants and tax benefits, whereas those enrolled in public four-year institutions receive ,100 as financial aid for college. (collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/press/cost06/trends_college_pricing_06.pdf)

If this data is any indication, then grants play a very important role in helping students fund their education. Unlike loans that have to be paid back by students once they start earning, money for college provided by grants generally does not have to be repaid. These grants are primarily need-based or awarded on the basis of students meeting certain eligibility criteria.

A case in point is the Pell Grant, which is one of the most popular federal grants. The Pell Grant is awarded to undergraduate students who come from low-income backgrounds. The Academic Competitiveness Grant is also a federal grant available to undergrad freshman and sophomore students who demonstrate academic excellence and a propensity towards leadership and service.

In addition to these federal grants, several states also offer grants to students based on need, merit, or their chosen major. There are also other grants that are constituted especially for students belonging to certain ethnic or disadvantaged groups such as African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans, etc. These grants could be administered by the government, universities and colleges, or ethnic organizations.

Scholarships are another source of financial aid for college. Unlike grants, scholarships are mainly merit-based and have to be competed for. Many individual colleges and universities also administer in-house scholarship programs that students can vie for.

So, if pursuing graduate or undergraduate programs from a college seems like an impossible dream, don’t forget that financial aid can be an option for those that qualify. This might help you turn your dream into a beautiful reality!

Life is really one long learning process.  Sometimes we are learning casually, both on the job and off.  Other times we may need a more formal learning atmosphere and that is when we need to consider pursuing an adult college education.  Formal learning acquired through an adult education facility can provide you with knowledge from others that have become experts in their fields.  It can be economical when it comes to time as well.

An Adult College Education Can Propel You Forward

Do you want to move forward in your career?  Have you been feeling stuck lately?  One of the ways that savvy business people propel themselves forward in their career is with adult education courses.  There are many course options available for adults in the business world and with the degree that you acquire you many suddenly find yourself qualified for more positions than you were before.

You Education Demonstrates Your Motivation

When employers see that you are motivated enough to pursue further education in your field they will believe that you will apply that motivation to your job, as well.  Employers seek highly motivated people and furthering your adult college education is a great way to show them that you are willing to do what it takes to move forward and get the job done.  When your employer discovers that you have taken the steps necessary to move forward in your career on your own they are likely to notice you and consider you for new positions.

Get an Adult College Education at Your Convenience

Because there are so many options available in adult education, it is easier than ever before to get your education at your convenience.  Many colleges make course in real class rooms available in the earlier or the later part of the day so that you can still go to work.  Even more colleges are making courses available online.  This is even more convenient for those who need to continue working because they can do their course work in the evenings, the mornings, or even on their lunch break.

An adult college education is easier to get today than it ever had been before. So, is it time for you to consider expanding your knowledge now? Are you ready to formally pursue the many opportunities that are available for learning?

It is not just the students who are planning on going to university but also the parents who are going through stress and confusion as they wonder how they are going to pay for the college degree. However, they need not feel that this is a daunting job as there are options for financial aid which are merit based and need based. For those who are completely unaware of the various options open for student loans and financial aid for further education it would help to do an online search of these options and learn more about them. Colleges are also keen on getting students to accomplish more and get better education and are out to help the need based student.

Financial aid is almost always required for further education like a college degree and the government and the colleges have made it possible for students to avail of this. This aid is provided by scholarships, work and study schemes, grants from private organizations and from federal agencies too. Each state also has its own plans to help need based students. If the college has funds to give out it helps the merit based students who prove their worth and who should be given the opportunity to study further.

Unless these options were available not many would be in a position to go through university education. Some loans have to be paid early during the tenure of the loan where as the need based loan can be paid back after the completion of graduation. The interest is also low and the payback terms less stressful. Students who have a good merit record are given scholarships which do not have to be repaid and all they have to do is to maintain a good record through out.

Another criteria which qualifies one for a substantial financial aid for college education is if the student is physically handicapped in any way. Those who have a physical disability and are keen on educating themselves are always encouraged and loans are easily available to them which do not have to be repaid. State owned colleges provide more financial aid than privately run ones. Find out more about this and other options forfinancial aid for students on financial-aid-directory.com.

I think that we can all agree that getting a good college education is one of the most important parts of a child’s life and paying for college is one of the most important responsibilities we have as parents; yet most of us do a notoriously bad job of saving for their children’s college education.

Today I’m going to talk about a foolproof plan that you can create immediately to make sure that your child has money set aside for college when the time comes.

Saving money is hard enough for most people. Here in America we’re just not geared towards it. We are a consumer society, we like to spend money, not save it.

But that’s not the most difficult aspect of financing your children’s college education, no… the hard part is determining what to invest that money in so that it grows at a nice rate and isn’t at risk from a wild swing in the stock market.

Some people simply choose to stick the money in a savings account. I recommend against that because savings accounts are very easy to raid when times get tough and you need some extra cash. Sure, you mean to pay it back but something always comes up and it never quite works out that way.

Still others choose to invest in certificates of deposit at their local bank, or CDs as they are referred to. This is a little bit better because most CDs lock you in and don’t allow you to cash them in right away. The problem here is that CDs payout piteously small returns. You’d almost be just as well off sticking the money in a mattress, especially when you calculate for inflation.

So what’s a parent to do?

The answer is in three parts.  First, open a free 529 college plan with your state. You can find information about 529 plans online, but basically they’re a way to invest money for college education that is tax-free to your child if used for college purposes.

Second, set aside a certain amount to be automatically deposited into your 529 college plan every single month. I don’t care how much it is, though obviously the more the better depending on how long you have until your child goes to college. But anything is better than nothing, even if it’s only five dollars a month or a month.

Either set it up to direct deposit from your paycheck through your job, or set it up to direct deposit out of your bank account yourself every single month.

Third, choose the correct investment vehicle.  Invest that money in a broad market index fund that attempts to simulate the entire stock market. Look for something that’s comparable to an S&P 500 index fund.

529 college plans are administered by the state and your investment options will be limited, but if you pick a fund that attempts to mimic the overall stock market, then you should enjoy those historic 7 to 8% gains that the stock market as a whole offers year after year.

Over the past ten years, the cost of a college education has climbed by nearly 90 percent. This is a staggering expense for both students hoping to complete their higher education and their families. But, the good news is that there is no need to bear this cost by yourself. Paying for college is now a partnership that includes your college or school of choice, the government, your family and even a number of private businesses and organizations. Another belief is that student financial aid is only available for those with an annual income of less than ,000. But, this is not true anymore. There are several schools that offer aid to talented and deserving students.

Where Do You Begin?

The majority of grants and loans available are courtesy of the federal government. There are a number of guidelines and eligibility criteria that determines whether a student will receive college financial aid. Researching on the internet could help you come up with some preliminary calculations that will make you understand what could be expected. You could also speak to your school guidance counselor to explore all your options and visit ed.gov/index.jhtml to find out more about college student financial aid.

Federal Aid:

If you want to apply for federal or state aid, you will need to supply all the information required by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. You can complete the form online or download it from fafsa.org. Most public colleges and universities use this information to determine whether aid is applicable or not and many private schools also factor it into their offers. Alternatively, schools and organizations that offer scholarships also use a second form – the College Scholarship Service Profile. These forms need to be filled up for every year that you apply for aid so plan in advance and keep all your financial information such as tax forms, pay stubs and bank account statements readily accessible.

Once the college or school of your choice receives your FAFSA, it considers your EFC (Expected Family Contribution) with reference to the cost of your college degree program. The EFC is determined by a number of factors like family income, assets, the number of children in the family attending college and the number of years until your parent’s retirement. If you feel that your family has special financial circumstances that is not reflected in these scores but are still affecting your ability to pay for college, it is worth sending a letter and speaking to the college’s financial aid office after you submit all the necessary paperwork.

Grants:

Grants are categorized on the basis of needs and merits and can be federal, state or institutional. Grants are normally tax-free and don’t have to be repaid. The Pell Grant (a maximum of ,300 annually) and the federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (from 0 to ,000 annually) are the largest federal grants available. These are non-negotiable and based on needs. Pell Grants are specifically awarded to students from low-income families.

Loans:

Nearly 60 percent of student aid is in the form of loans. These include subsidized loans that carry low interest rates and don’t have to be repaid until after graduation. The federal Perkins Loan allows students to borrow up to ,000 a year for five years at a very low interest rate. The Stafford Loan also carries a low interest rate. Repayments begin and interest starts accruing only six months after graduation. Unsubsidized Stafford loans on the other hand accrue interest immediately but the student can defer this interest payment until after he or she begins to repay the principal amount (normally after graduation). When students accept a federally subsidized loan, they will be expected to work at on-campus jobs for 10 to 15 hours a week as part of the federal Work-Study program. Parents can also borrow up to the total cost of four years of college as per the Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). However, the repayment structure on this type of loan is extremely stringent.

Financial aid applications are filed in January each year so be sure to have all the information you require before then. In case you receive aid from a number of schools apart from the college of your choice, do not forget to decline the other offers so that they can distribute the aid to other students. In the end, a practical, methodical approach to funding and your education is the only way to enjoy all the benefits on offer and secure your future in the long run.

Eligibility:

It’s best to speak to your financial aids officer at the college or school of your choice to determine your eligibility. On the whole, eligibility for loans and grants depends upon-

Financial need Qualification for postsecondary education. Proof of the same includes a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate or passing scores on an Ability-to-Benefit (ATB) test. Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligible non-citizenship Social Security Number information Maintenance of academic progress once in school

Even if you aren’t eligible for college Student Financial Aid, it is still recommended that you complete the FAFSA as you may be eligible for non-federal aid from other private organizations or states.

Despite the obviously expensive venture that is trying to get yourself a higher college education, there are a number of ways that you can cut these high costs and still get your degree. For all the ideas currently floating the media, the single greatest money saver you can conjure up is opting to attend a community college. It is no exaggeration to say that choosing to spend your first two years studying in a community college could literally save you thousands to tens of thousands of dollars.

As a testament to the superior decision in alloting your first two years to a community college, the primary opposition to this idea comes from the vocal, business driven universities. Although a high quality, long term education can come from these schools, they are not primarily intended to be a service of learning, and have a financial aim to them. It should go without saying that, armed with a need to maintain a customer base as much as a student body, universities’ objectivity should probably be brought into question in this case.

The truth of the matter is, for the first two years of at one of these smaller colleges, you are still accruing credit that can later be transferred to a university, if that is your ultimate decision. If pure learning is something that interests you, this may actually be better in the long term, as universities usually teach their newer students in large, open auditoriums where you will be packed to the brim with your classmates. Meanwhile, a grad student will likely do the majority of the lecturing, as the professor is often too busy digging into his research.

But once more, it cannot really be understated the financial burden that would be lifted by deciding to go to a local school. As their name implies, community colleges are intended to appeal to the local community, which are usually in short commuting distances. This allows you to save a great deal of money not only in tuition, but will also cut back on moving costs, and you will not have to pay for expensive lodging, as you can go to school while staying in your own home.

However, it’s also important to understand that you will not get a four year degree from these colleges – and therefore they need to be regarded as a money saving alternative to entry level education, not a different source of your bachelor’s. Therefore, you should consider making a savings account, filled with the thousands of dollars you’ll be saving by opting not to leap straight into one of the bigger, expensive schools. These can all later be applied to the cumbersome financial burdens that will come later.

In addition, many states offer incentives, bonuses, and financial assistance to families that are interested in participating in school, as long as they are currently enrolled in a community college. These excellent programs also fundamentally lock in your eventual tuition fees – as long as you are planning to go to a university later – and will help by freezing the costs, preventing you from suffering from the burden of future inflation. This is an important thing to plan for, as the cost of school tuition is only rising, with no signs of stopping.

If you want to pursue your higher education, there really is no better route than starting your first two years in a community college. Whether you’re simply planning to accrue your two year or four yeer degree, the money saved there can turn into money well spent elsewhere, especially in a futher eduction.
